It is my great pleasure to recommend The Salaam Network for the 2020 Atlantic Renewals Award. It is my understanding that this competition celebrates local organizations that are finding creative solutions to America’s most pressing problems. The Salaam Network fills this criterion as a group of interfaith educators, artists, peacemakers and justice activists who are committed to building a knowledge-based foundation for promoting understanding, amity and wholeness in Louisville, KY. TSN brings together Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and others to build bridges between these faith traditions. They achieve this by using a group of highly-credentialed scholars who have endeavored to demonstrate that the values that lie at the core of all religious faiths -love, mercy, compassion, justice – can enable us to overcome divisiveness, bigotry and discrimination in our community.

I have been one of the presenters for this organization and I can attest to the great work they are doing. In today’s climate, educating the community about the “Other” (those who are seen as different, or even as enemies) is critically important. The work that TSN is doing is nontraditional, but essential nonetheless. I would ask that you strongly consider this great organization for your award and allow them to expand the great work that they are doing.
